A place to spew the innards of my brain after a long night of thinking.
If you are a river rat--or better yet--if you are a sand camel but happen to find yourself on the water from time to time, you really need one of these:
A Map of the Southeastern Louisiana Waterways from River Rat Rob Arrington.
The guy does great things. He gives these maps to emergency officials so that when someone calls with an emergency on the water, they can find the lunatic who thought spear fishing and Budweiser was a good idea.
Also, he sells these maps to the public--which are helpful when you don't have a clue how to tell the 911 operators where you are
("Right between the Bass Pro and Subway Sponsors!")Also, the
2008 Rockin the River at Ratstock is a benefit for the St. Amant Fire Dept. You think working with the public is bad? Try working with the hysterical mother, the drunk best friend, or the vague neighbor who only heard a loud bang "down the street somewhere."
Rob helps with a variety of events on Lake Maurepas and the Amite river...he gives you an idea on his
The Jam vs. The The Lake Bash. Rob hosts the JAM for his son,
Jonathan Arrington, who is sadly no longer with us. Jonathan was a talented musician and Rob is deeply moved by the loss of his son. Not only has the JAM been a way for Rob to mourn, but it has been a way for Rob to remember, rejoice, and renew.
Seriously.
I don't promote people, businesses, or products on my personal website without good cause. I am very selective in whose link I include either because I personally have had a pleasant experience with their product(s), believe in their cause, or because I requested a link on their site so I return the favor by linking back. NO ONE pays to be on The Vacancy.
So with that said, Rob is a good guy who wants to spread the River Rat love. Those who live on the water know the passion and inspiration it sparks in us, but we are also acutely aware of the danger.
